Raising Young Children who will Thrive with Food They Eat, Futures Series

  • NOVA 122 Faulkner Street Armidale, NSW, 2350 Australia (map)

Despite nutrition having a profound effect on the body and mind of children, nutrition education for the early years is lacking in Australia. Every day, we make multiple decisions on what to eat, and what to feed our children. Education is not only about knowledge sharing, it’s about turning the knowing into doing. The early years are an opportune time to set eating habits for life. It’s the longest relationship that humans will ever have, and it’s time we empower parents, educators and children to create a positive relationship with food for life. If you want to be empowered with the how of nutrition education, then you’ll not want to miss Dr Flav’s (Flavia Fayet-Moore) talk about Food is Cool, and feeding children in the early years.

Flavia Fayet-Moore (Dr. Flav) PhD, MNutDiet, BSc(Honours), APD, RNutr, FASLM will be joined by Alissa Patacic, founder of the Flourish Cooperative, based in Armidale who has created a space for mothers.

  • All welcome. Morning tea will be provided at the end of the session.

Dr. Flav is a Brazilian-born, Canadian-raised, Australian-made scientist, dietitian, nutritionist, researcher and entrepreneur. She was the first dietitian in Australia to be internationally board-certified in Lifestyle Medicine. She believes that science, technology, and creativity can go a long way in solving some of the problems we face globally in health and wellbeing.

As the founder and CEO of NRAUS (Nutrition Research Australia), she maintains her independent and credible voice on all things nutrition, health and wellbeing. She is also the co-founder of Food is Cool, where nutrition in schools is done differently. Food is Cool offers and all-inclusive nutrition education program for early learning and empowers everyone to have a positive relationship with food for life, while making food cool! Dr. Flav is a fellow of the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine and Adjunct Lecturer at Newcastle University.
