Transforming Regional Business Growth with StepChange

The StepChange program, supported by the NSW Government's Accelerating Regional Innovation Fund (ARIF), has recently finished a series of in-depth workshops, masterclasses, and mentoring sessions aimed at fostering business development in regional New South Wales.

Over the past several months, business owners in Armidale, Tamworth, and other New England North West (NENW) locations have had the opportunity to break free from the daily grind and focus on strategic growth initiatives with one of our Expert’s in Residence, Ian Mason.

Ian Mason is an entrepreneur who was mentored by Sir Richard Branson when he led the launch of the Virgin StartUp Hub in London. His involvement in the program brought a wealth of experience and practical insights. The workshops he conducted were tailored to address the unique challenges faced by regional businesses, providing participants with actionable strategies and tools to achieve sustainable growth.

The networking opportunities were particularly valuable, as they gave participants a chance to connect on a deeper level, exchanging insights, discussing common challenges, and celebrating each other's successes. This open exchange fostered a supportive community atmosphere, where business owners could find potential mentors and collaborators who truly understood the entrepreneurial journey.

The Tamworth event focused on essential business growth topics, including growth strategies, building high-performing teams, brand building, and financial modelling.

Business owners participated in interactive sessions that covered a range of topics, ensuring they left with a comprehensive action plan to drive their businesses forward. The interactive nature of the workshops allowed for personalised guidance and hands-on experience.

In addition to these intensive face-to-face sessions, Ian also conducted a series of online Masterclasses covering sales optimisation, financial modelling, and capital raising. These Masterclasses offered further value and flexibility for participants, enabling them to deepen their knowledge and skills at their own pace.

Ian also provided opportunities for businesses that participated in the StepChange program to receive 1:1 mentoring sessions, offering personalised support and guidance tailored to their specific needs.

Since the StepChange program first launched with its initial face-to-face session with NENW SMEs in December 2023, Ian has worked with 31 New England North West businesses through these intensives, masterclasses, and mentoring sessions.

The program's success is a testament to the NSW Government's commitment to supporting regional innovation and business growth. The Accelerating Regional Innovation Fund has been instrumental in making this program possible, demonstrating the impact of strategic government support in fostering regional development and innovation.

By providing targeted support and practical knowledge, the StepChange program has empowered regional business owners to overcome barriers and achieve their growth goals.

As we wrap up the StepChange program, we look forward to seeing the continued growth and success of our participants. The insights and strategies gained from the program will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on their businesses and the broader regional economy.

Thank you to all who participated and contributed to the success of StepChange
