Illuminate in Moree!

UNE SMART Region Incubator (UNE SRI) is excited to be encouraging innovation and introducing high school students to the possibilities of entrepreneurship!

Illuminate Education Australia delivers authentic entrepreneurial education programs where problems in the community are solved by students.

“We are glad to be partnering with Illuminate in Moree, and grateful for the opportunity to support students to develop skills and confidence, while encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship,” said UNE SRI Regional Connector, Phoebe Wood.

“Through the Illuminate program, students develop their life skills in areas including communication and problem solving. They also have the chance to confidently embrace their ideas, and consider the possibilities of entrepreneurship!”

Year 9 and 10 students from Moree Secondary College and St Philomena’s Catholic School will participate in the secondary schools’ Illuminate challenge, to be held at Moree Secondary College from Monday 14 March – Friday 18 March.

The challenge week will be facilitated by presenters from Illuminate Education Australia, including Founder and Inspirer Adam Mostogl - named in Australia’s Top 30 Under 30 Entrepreneurs in 2017.

The week-long program provides students with an authentic entrepreneurial environment within which they can articulate the confidence, creativity and capability to reach their full potential through solving problems in their community.

“Students are supported by experienced facilitators and receive input from community members as they work in teams to develop a new project or business idea,” Phoebe said.

“Along the way, they develop skills in communication, critical thinking and inquiry, digital and financial literacy, design thinking, problem solving and collaboration.”

Teams begin by considering a relevant local community issue, defining the problem they see, and creatively exploring and refining possible solutions. They will develop business models for sustained impact, as well as marketing materials that connect with target customers, and present the idea for investment and support. Each team will showcase how they collaborated to deliver a solution.

“We are proud to be bringing this challenge to the students of Moree and we’re looking forward to the entrepreneurial output from the week,” Phoebe said.

“Community members are welcome to attend the pitch deck presentations and ‘pressure cooker’ on Friday from 9:10am-12pm, in addition we’d like to invite all parents, school and community members to the Award Presentation from 2:35-3pm.”
