Growing healthy communities
Finding innovative solutions to support health and wellbeing in regional communities
RISE 2022 is a sprint and pitch event dedicated to finding solutions to healthcare issues faced by our regional communities.
Growing healthy communities is the theme for 2022 to find solutions that support the health and wellbeing of regional communities from birth through to later life. RISE will be a dynamic and collaborative event designed to inspire innovative products, service, business and program ideas.
We are looking to find solutions that will help address current issues as well as preventative solutions that will help to ease the burden on the healthcare system. Ultimately, these solutions will help growth and prosperity in the health of our communities.
RISE participants will work in teams to address three specific problem statements:
Health Education
Many health challenges are a result of poor health habits and choices that are embedded from an early age.
How can we improve the long-term health outcomes of our community by focusing on better education for children, today?
Aged Care
Maintaining independence and social connection is key to enabling the elderly to live at home longer therefore alleviating pressure on the residential aged care system (which is predicted to have a staffing shortfall of 110,000 by 2025).
How can we enable the elderly to remain independent at home with an enhanced quality of life – covering nutrition, physical independence (mobility) social connection and mental wellbeing?
Mental Health
Mental health has a huge impact on every aspect of people’s lives. It affects behaviour, physical health, work and relationships, as well as the people around them.
How can we improve mental health outcomes in our community?
This event is proudly funded by the NSW Government through the Investing in Women Funding Program, and delivered in association with Tamworth Regional Council.

Water is life (detail) 2022
acrylic on canvas
Water is life is a commissioned piece for RISE by Ann Johnson and Colleen Tighe Johnson. It tells the story of our connection to sky, land and water. Nungeena-tya Mother Earth (landscape) links the sky to the land, when it rains the water from the sky flows into our river systems. This piece speaks to the lore and interconnectedness of spirituality, language, family, identity and our culture. Our Belonging through our Kinship system, our spiritual connection of creating stories, sharing stories, sharing knowledge and conserving life.
