NENW women cracking the code in Tamworth
The UNE SMART Region Incubator and Gro Events came together to host an event in celebration of International Women's Day 2023 inspired by the theme "Cracking the Code: Innovation for a gender equal future".
The breakfast event was held at the Tamworth Powerhouse by Rydge's and attended by over 70 women from around the Tamworth region.
As guests entered the room, filled with over-sized balloons and pink floral walls, they were greeted with welcome gifts including FOUND Regional Magazine, Sarah Day Travel mini stationary set, The Daily Cupcake Co cupcake and an Odger’s and McClelland canvas tote – before enjoying a delicious breakfast served during the panel discussion.
The panel of women included Charlotte Mortlock, a broadcast journalist and founder of Hilma's Network; Kate Ivey, owner, and founder of Kate Ivey Fitness and DediKate; Kisani Upward, a Registered Nurse and Artist, and Alexandra Gawthorne, Co-Founder of Gilay Estate and Talent Manager.
Each woman brought their unique perspective to the discussion, sharing their stories of success, challenges, and the importance of innovation in a gender equal future, particularly in regional and rural communities.
Charlotte Mortlock spoke about her journey from journalism to politics and her passion for advocacy for women. Kate Ivey talked about her experience in creating an online fitness community that focuses on mums and rural and regional women. Kisani Upward shared her work as a nurse and artist and her research on the impact of the 2019/2020 bushfires on Aboriginal communities in regional NSW. And to round out the panel, Alexandra Gawthorne spoke about her passion for creating meaningful change in a regional community through business, crafting unique content and building a life centered on personal values.
“The UNE SMART Region Incubator and Gro Event’s THRIVE event was a fantastic opportunity to hear from inspirational women, each committed to empowering women in their own unique way as well as to network with like-minded individuals,” said Regional Connector Jessica Bradbery.
“The event was a true celebration of women's achievements and a call to action for innovation and striving towards gender equality in the future.”
