A roadmap to net-zero for Industry
In an age where climate change and environmental impact are at the forefront of everyone's minds, finding ways to achieve net zero is becoming increasingly important.
But as Professor Hugh Durrant-Whyte, the NSW Chief Scientist and Engineer, pointed out during his recent visit to the UNE SMART Region Incubator (SRI), setting targets is just the beginning.
On 24th April, Professor Hugh Durrant-Whyte spoke to a diverse group of business leaders and researchers at the UNE SRIs NOVA in Armidale.
During his presentation, Professor Durrant-Whyte highlighted the need for tremendous and rapid change, along with large-scale technology deployment across industries, in order to reach net zero.
And while this might seem like a daunting task, he also stressed the potential for new businesses and opportunities that the transition could create.
The event was part of the SRI's ongoing Futures Series, which draws a range of experts to explore various sectors, markets, products, and services. And with $800 million being invested in research and support for innovation in NSW through a range of funding programs, the audience learned about the opportunities that exist for founders and businesses in the region.
Lou Conway, Director of the SRI was thrilled to have Professor Durrant-Whyte share his insights and discuss the benefits that could be derived from building on NSW's competitive and regional advantages.
“The New England North West has long been a hub for agricultural innovation, as well as technology innovation in sectors like culturetech and healthtech.”
“With so much potential on the horizon, events like this one at the UNE SRI are more important than ever. As we look towards a future and possibility of net zero, it's vital that we come together to explore the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead, while working towards a sustainable and prosperous future for our region and beyond”.
