A hearty serving of nutrition insight with Dr Flavia Fayet-Moore.

The SRI recently hosted two Futures Series events featuring nutrition scientist and entrepreneur, Dr. Flavia Fayet-Moore.

Dr. Flav, as she likes to be known, is an expert in global nutrition and a passionate advocate for using knowledge and evidence to support health.

Her first talk, "Raising Young Children Who Will Thrive with the Food They Eat" was a must-see event for parents, educators, and anyone interested in the future of nutrition education.

Dr Flav pointed out that while nutrition has a profound impact on children's bodies and minds, nutrition education for the early years is lacking in Australia.

She also emphasized that education is not just about sharing knowledge but turning it into action. And she stressed that the early years are the best time to establish healthy eating habits for life, making it the longest-lasting relationship a person will ever have.

Dr. Flav’s passion & expertise in this area certainly inspired parents, educators, and children to develop a positive relationship with food that will last a lifetime!

During her second talk, Dr Flav discussed the future of food and how it will shape our lives in 2100. She shared her insights on the seven interconnected forces that will shape the future of food and nutrition.

The audience learned that it's time to focus on nutrition and bioactive elements of all foods, including synthetic foods, and that equitable and affordable access to food is critical

The Future of Food talk highlighted opportunities for health and nutrition with a particular focus on new business development. Dr Flav noted the importance of technology in verifying nutrition in food and met with Danielle Morton, the founder of Zondii, who demonstrated what her company is bringing to market to verify bioactives.

Dr. Flav also stressed the importance of indigenous foods and knowledge to human health and how nutrition in space will sharpen our focus on the key nutritional aspects required for human flourishing.

Dr. Flavia Fayet-Moore is a Brazilian-born, Canadian-raised, Australian-made scientist, dietitian, nutritionist, researcher, and entrepreneur. She was the first dietitian in Australia to be internationally board-certified in Lifestyle Medicine.

She is the founder and CEO of NRAUS (Nutrition Research Australia) and co-founder of Food is Cool, where nutrition in schools is done differently. Food is Cool offers an all-inclusive nutrition education program for early learning and empowers everyone to have a positive relationship with food for life while making food cool!
