Young people power on the agenda

“People power - young people power - has been on the agenda at today's #COP26 summit.

We couldn’t agree more with the importance of elevating their voices.

Through our UNE SMART Region Incubator, we’re working right now to empower young people through Scorched, a program for those in the New England region who are passionate about solving the real challenges brought on by bushfire and climate change.

In Scorched, our young entrepreneurs will design solutions to help businesses, industries and communities build bushfire and climate resilience, using innovative tools and technologies, mentorships, hackathon-style events and even music to devise real solutions to these real regional issues.

Facilitator Sewa Emojong says Scorched is “a program of hope”.

“We’ve got a great line-up of events coming up next year, designed to empower people to not only have a voice in addressing the challenges posed by climate change and bushfires in the region, but also an opportunity to enact their ideas that address those key challenges.

“We’re already getting a diversity of views and approaches as we start engaging organisations that work with young people, and it’s getting exciting.

“It’s a program of hope, of action and of people being able to get in the driver’s seat of steering change through enterprise.”

The Scorched program continues until mid-2023, and participants in the New England region can become involved at any time. Find out more here: https://okt.to/G6lSPy
